A Wedding on Waiheke Island – A Special Place for a Special Day

Surrounded by glistening sea and fringed by sandy beaches, Waiheke Island is also home to rolling hills, picturesque vineyards and vibrant green bush. It is truly a place of breath-taking beauty at every turn.

With accolades such as “playground of the Gods”, Waiheke Island is certainly worth exploring as a potential wedding location. Certainly, finding a stunning backdrop for wedding photos is almost too easy in this unique and magical place! Add the right ingredients, and guests to a wedding on the island will quickly understand that they have arrived somewhere special.

Ensuring your wedding guests are greeted with outstanding wedding food and excellent service is among one of the most important factors in setting the tone for a true celebration. Nico at Urban Escargot understands this fully. He works slavishly to ensure that his food is the source of delight and happiness on the day. While his training and formative years were spent working in lavish, high-end French restaurants, Nico has embraced the relaxed and convivial style many people wish to adopt for their weddings, by incorporating a food truck into the various delivery options. His food truck is an excellent way of removing the stress of exaggerated costs commonly associated with weddings, without sacrificing the wow-factor. It also often serves as a welcome added commercial kitchen when a beautify location is otherwise challenged by its cooking facilities.

Waiheke Island Wedding Logistics

When you consider getting married on Waiheke, we advise you to also become familiar with logistics.

Waiheke has two ferry services: a 35-40 minute passenger ferry departing from Auckland CBD and a 45 (or 60) minute car/passenger ferry departing from Auckland’s Half Moon Bay. Accommodation options for guests might or might not be relevant. Then, of course, there’s the venue…

An increasingly popular option for couples getting married seems to be a beach ceremony (or at another scenic spot). This is followed by a reception at a Waiheke private residence. Further Waiheke venue options to explore where Urban Escargot can cater for your special day include:
• Man o’ War
• Honeymoon Bay
• Rangihoua the Venue
• Plumbago Hill
• Kauri Springs Lodge
• Delamore Lodge

Another option is for Nico to come to you. Although normally based on Waiheke Island, Urban Escargot owner Nico Fini is more than happy to put his truck on the ferry and come and meet you at your mainland Auckland venue.

Wedding Catering at Waiheke

The photos below were taken at weddings at Waiheke. Some at Kauri Spring Lodge, a stunning Wedding venue on Waiheke Island. The menu started with canapes, including Nico’s famous escargots to start off with a sophisticated touch and to give an opportunity for guests to mingle {Thanks to Lauren Murray Photography}. Canapés picture below include Snapper ceviche, Parmesan cheese crumbed mushroom, rosemary and mustard crust rack of lamb.

Nico often tops of a wedding with a tower of choux profiteroles. Each one filled with alternatively, Belgian dark chocolate and salted caramel custard, drizzled with a light, crunchy caramel. A stunning wedding cake. Honeymoon Bay makes a stunning location with time to watch the sunset.
